Just Musicking

One of the most satisfying experiences of teaching kiddos of all abilities is to see how they enjoy playing their own music outside “formal learning” repertoire.
This not-so-little kiddo who has been musicking with me on the violin for a while now. What started off as music therapy sessions soon evolved to become trial music sessions and even more serious music lessons.
All credit has to go to him that he loves music and is willing to put in the work outside sessions to practice and explore his own music! That’s really one of the most precious goals of music education. It is also most satisfying as a therapist to realize that a little kiddo has developed enough skills to express himself, more than adequately, through a beautiful art form on his own.
So he came to class, telling me what some of his favourite nursery rhymes were in the past. So we decided at whim to play some for some light warm up before the actual start of scales and such. Besides, we were exploring some GarageBand audio recording features and that worked just as well! So with a few directions from the kiddo ( yes, including the transition to Ab major) we musicked. It turned out to be a joyous music making moment!
