Play... just because

Play... just because

So in the previous article, we spoke about how we can make learning more fun through play. There were several good sessions and moments where play supported learning. For instance, playing “Shop”, playing with puppets and making up funny stories.

Then, came a little kiddo one day. She said, “Can we play shop?”

I answered, “ We did quite a bit of it just then.” This came after a money counting activity where she had quite a bit of fun too. There was role playing involved and some improvised song and play acting.

She answered, “ That was not play. That was work!”

While it was humorous at that time, it was a loaded statement. I was reminded that sometimes, children just want to play without any “hidden agendas”. They want to experience some pure fun, in doing something that they like, interacting with people they liked,  without any added expectations!

There is a time for everything! So let’s remember to factor in time for playing in its purest form as well.
